The Reading Program at OMES

Reading is our top priority. The Balanced Literary Program developed by Baltimore County Public Schools is implemented in every classroom. Staff development has focused on sharing instructional practices. This balanced reading program incorporates numerous successful strategies to enhance learning. These include:

  • Assessing students on a regular basis and regrouping according to skill levels
  • Forming reading groups with greater teacher to student ratios
  • Identifying and tutoring students not reading at grade level

Technology

OMES has two fully-equipped computer labs, each with 32 Dell Pentium 4 computers. The library has 11 Dell Pentium 4 computers and 4 Macintosh G3 computers. Every classroom has an average of four Dell computers and two laser printers. Every computer has Internet access and is connected to a laser printer.
